IT Asset Disposal
IT asset disposal is a necessary part of day-to-day operations. However, lack of clear policies
or poor processes can expose a company to various risks. The
disposal of old IT assets is becoming as complicated as the acquisition
of new ones. Each PC, server, storage system, or IT device retired
poses a data security risk and potential environmental hazard.
Over the next five years, it is estimated that more than 800 million PCs will be replaced,
presenting a tremendous opportunity for sensitive personal and corporate information to fall
into the wrong hands. Monetary fines and damage to brand equity can quickly mount, costing organizations millions.
Erasure - Data Erasure Services
Data security is the single most important aspect of any IT asset disposition program.
To ensure that hard drives are properly sanitized and erased to the most stringent standards,
our hard drive erasure process is designed to ensure your
company’s safety through 100% data eradication to meet DoD 5220.22M
multipass standards.
Hard drives are erased while they’re either still in the system or out of the system.
To ensure the highest level of quality, all drives are system
audited for successful erasure, with random samples removed for further
stand-alone compliance audits.
Why Secure Destruction?
Today, companies must navigate an ever-increasing environmental
and privacy regulatory landscape. Examples of these requirements
include Sarbanes-Oxley; HIPAA (criminal penalties
of up to $250,000 and/or 10 years’ imprisonment per violation of
patient security information); Gramm-Leach-Bliley (penalties of up to
$100,000 per violation for financial service/customer information);
WEEE; Basel Convention; RCRA; CERCLA; tariff-funded recycling in the
states of California and Maine; anti-landfill laws in the states of
Massachusetts, New Jersey, and
Minnesota; and state privacy laws on protecting citizens’ personal information, including HIV
status, genetic data, video rentals, library borrowing, bank records, cable viewing, polygraph
results, and employment records. Additional legislation pending in more than 20 states is likely
to increase the fines for those in violation of state or federal laws.
Destruction - Physical Destruction Services
When erasure of hard drives and data devices is not secure enough,
we offer extreme data protection by destroying and shredding disk
drives in accordance with strict NSA standards.
Hard drive shredding usually occurs when optimal data security is a
necessity and a company maintains a zero tolerance for risk. Drives
designated for destruction are shredded into small particles, meeting
NSA standards. The shredded material is properly recycled in an
environmentally friendly manner.
Drive destruction can also occur if a hard drive fails our stringent
erasure protocol. Hard drive serial numbers are recorded prior to
shredding, and certificates of destruction are issued for a client’s
permanent records.
On-site shredding and erasure capabilities are also available; ask us for details.
With your company’s security and reputation at stake, take every measure possible to ensure
that data-containing devices are properly prepared, processed, or destroyed.
